Idasa has a different take on the World Cup success

Now that we have had some time to look back on South Africa’s success in pulling off the World Cup South Africans have to ask ourselves: what did we do right? This is important, because in its answer lies the hope that we will be able to do it right again. In this article, Idasa’s Executive Director, Paul Graham, argues that it is in the years of struggle that South Africans learned to generate the “gees” that characterised this event – and these are lessons to share with the world. Lots has already been said about the World Cup, but we at Idasa believe the real debate really only starts now and we have to get it going – now we have to engage with the question - if we did it once, how can we do it again?
