Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council contracted Idasa to provide a specialised capacity building programme based on Gender Mainstreaming. The training programme sought to develop a common and a broader understanding of the concept “Gender and Gender mainstreaming” to the Women Councillors and Women in ward committees.
This Gender training workshop is part of the annual activity organised and conceptualised by the Office of the Speaker of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council. The training workshop intended to prepare and expose participants towards understanding Gender and how to deal with gender related issues, analyse how gender impacts on leadership at community level and encourage women to be more actively involved in community organising
The main purpose and objective of the workshops was to provide an effective platform for the women not only to learn about the Gender issues but also to engage on the “catalytic role” of women as change agents and also to breathe new life into determining the broader vision on Gender mainstreaming programmes in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council.
